Selection Process

Using our methodology, we determine our list of Ocean Grants Recommended Organizations. That list is then reviewed once more by our Advisory Board and then by the Ocean Grants Board of Directors, at which point it is finalized and the Ocean Grants Recommended Organizations are notified of their selection.

Ocean Grants Recommended Organizations receive the following benefits:

• recognition on the Ocean Grants website;

• recognition through our social media outlets;

• a featured article in an Ocean Grants Special Report; and

• recommendation to our donors for funding

An organization will become an Ocean Grants Recommended Organization only after we’ve determined they:

• are doing meaningful work in an important Ocean segment;

• are fiscally responsible;

• are transparent and forthcoming with information;

• have measurable metrics of effectiveness and impact;

• have scalable models; and

• would be significantly enhanced with additional funding

We strive to be as transparent as possible and encourage organizations that are not initially recommended to try again.  We are happy to discuss our process and assessments with any organization wishing to learn more.
